Hinodeya’s success in the competitive California market is driven by several key highlights that define its unique offering:
- Authentic Dashi Broth: The foundation of their menu is the traditional, Umami-rich Dashi broth (made with bonito, kombu, and scallop) used in the HINODEYA (House) RAMEN ($19.55). This distinctive, lighter-yet-profoundly-flavorful broth sets them apart from many of the heavier, tonkotsu-style ramen shops in the Bay Area.
- Leading Vegan Selection: Hinodeya is celebrated for its commitment to plant-based diners, offering several excellent vegan ramen choices. The YUZU RAMEN (Vegan) ($23.00), with its light umami broth and yuzu oil, and the rich CREAMY RAMEN (Vegan) ($20.70), made with soy milk and sesame, are highly recommended and praised for not looking "sad" but being robust and satisfying.
- Unique Ramen Specialties: Beyond the standard offerings, the menu features innovative bowls like the HAMAGURI RAMEN (Clam) ($24.15), a light buttery dashi broth topped with littleneck clams, and the ABURI CHEESE SPICY MISO Ramen ($24.15), which adds flame-seared cheese for a savory twist.
- Highly-Rated Side Dishes: The Okazu (Side Dish) menu is excellent, featuring popular choices like the perfectly fried CHICKEN KARAAGE ($12.65), and unique items such as FRIED OYSTER ($12.65) (from Hiroshima, Japan), and the flavorful Umami Brussel Sprouts ($10.35).
- Attentive Service (Off-Peak): Customers consistently describe the service as attentive and friendly, though they advise that the restaurant can become noisy and crowded on weekends, suggesting weekday visits for a more tranquil experience.
- Excellent Value and Flavor: Despite premium pricing, the ramen offers a high level of quality, with one review enthusiastically rating the value and flavor as a "10/10."

- CREAMY RAMEN (Vegan) ($20.70): For those seeking a plant-based option, this is a must-try. The rich, sweet broth made with shiitake mushroom dashi and soy milk is highly rated. It’s perfect for customers who want a hearty, non-meat ramen that doesn't compromise on the comforting, thick texture of a traditional broth.
- CHICKEN KARAAGE ($12.65): From the Okazu menu, this Japanese-style fried chicken is a favorite side dish. Served with matcha salt, it offers a crispy, perfectly seasoned pairing for any bowl of ramen.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Great Ramen. Major complaint about the ice cream soda. The recipe normally doesn't include ice in it because then the soda and ice cream don't mix. Furthermore, you put in so much ice that there were like 4 sips of soda and barely any ice cream. ABSOLUTE RIPOFF FOR $9!
April 30 · Thomas LillibridgeAccessible tables are available, and the menu is accessible via QR code. The ramen offers excellent value and flavor, receiving a 10/10 rating. Service is attentive; however, we recommend avoiding weekend visits due to high noise levels and crowds
April 22 · Alejandra MacielMy go-to at Hinodeya is the spicy miso ramen. The ramen is always filling and good, the noodles being especially great. I can appreciate the fact that the ingredients and spice level can be customized. Last time I visited, me and my group had some issues with the service. When we placed our order online using the QR code at the table, for some reason, it had categorized it as a pickup order rather than a dine-in order, and it took us a while to get an employee's attention to fix the situation. It was quite busy that night, so the lack of attention was understandable, but it was still mildly frustrating. Overall, everyone left the restaurant satisfied, so 4/5.
April 22 · Hana EstalillaFast and efficient service. We ordered via the QR code and food came out quickly. We ordered green gyoza, combo appetizer, fried oyster and house ramen. All tasted fresh and good. Will visit again when we're in the area
March 16 · Opinion Worth a ThoughtWe tried the downtown Hinodeya on Friday night at 5:30 pm. We walked in and were seated right away as they only had a few tables occupied. When you arrive, they bring you water right away and then the ordering is done on your phone. You do not place an order with a server. They tend to leave you alone so if you had any questions you better ask while the water is brought to you. Once you've scanned the QR (so over QR menus btw) & placed your order, the food comes pretty fast.Once you've gotten your food, you don't really see the waiters much anymore. You've gotten your food and you have paid so what more do you need? We had to flag someone down to get containers and a bag for the leftovers.Aside from the no contact ordering, the food is very good and tastes fresh. The servings are plentiful and we all enjoyed everything very much. The clam ramen is fabulous! They give you sooooo many clams! We had never had that before, nor thought of the combo...delish!My one complaint is the seating. I have a really difficult time with hard chairs and they are straight wood. I guess I'm thankful they aren't metal at least. :)We already loved the Campbell location so I'm glad this is close to my work.
