Curry Hyuga Introduce
For California residents seeking a true taste of Japanese comfort food, Curry Hyuga in Cupertino offers an authentic and richly flavored experience specializing in Japanese curry rice. Japanese curry, known as karē raisu, is a beloved national dish in Japan, distinct from its Indian and Thai counterparts. It features a thick, velvety sauce that is generally milder, sweeter, and less spicy than other Asian curries, making it a satisfying and deeply comforting meal that is immensely popular across the globe, and particularly here in the diverse Bay Area.
At Curry Hyuga, the focus is on a house-made curry, which is slow-simmered daily from a special blend of aromatic spices and sweetened with caramelized onions. This dedication to authentic preparation ensures a rich, intense, and deeply savory flavor profile. The restaurant is not just a standard Japanese eatery; it is a dedicated Japanese curry restaurant, reflecting a culinary passion for this specific type of cuisine. The establishment’s chef, classically trained in kaiseki cuisine, brings a high level of culinary expertise to this accessible and popular fare, ensuring a high-quality twist on a Japanese favorite.
The menu is centered around the curry rice plate, which pairs the signature curry sauce with various toppings, alongside a few traditional Japanese non-curry entrées. Portions are notably generous, offering excellent value for a hearty meal.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I tried the Beef Hayashi, but it was quite sour for my taste. If you enjoy tangy flavors, you might like it more than I did. The Signature Curry was also not very appealing to me — the flavor was too strong and overpowering. The only thing I really liked was the corn soup. It was comforting and had a nice balance. Also, the restaurant environment was quite noisy, which made it a bit hard to enjoy the meal.
May 11 · YS HuangI've been here numerous times, and it's always been a great experience. The food is delicious and oftentimes freshly fried, with massive portions (seriously, as an adult it's hard for me to finish). The service staff are incredibly attentive and friendly, it's a small venue but they definitely make the most of it. There's usually a bit of a wait but it's not too bad to wait out in the nearby plaza. The only complaint I have is that occasionally, the pork katsu can be a tad overly fatty with cuts of cartilage.
July 28 · Blake LaExcellent experience at this curry place! They are highly popular and a line forms within 15 minutes of them opening usually. Their spice level was very spicy and had a good kick and they also have the spices at the table if you want to try them out yourself!Service was prompt and the portions are huge! It’s enough for 2 meals for me and I brought back the leftovers.
July 02 · Helen ZhuShowed up with a group of 4 at 1:30pm on a Saturday. There was a 20 minute wait, which was just enough time to enjoy a tea from a nearby shop. Service was prompt and the prorations were quite generous. The curry itself is flavorsome, not overpowering, though quite rich. I recommend the karaage, which was tender and well-seasoned. The tonkatsu was quite dry. This location has bottled beer, but no sake. Overall, a pleasant experience at a reasonable price. I probably won’t go back, though. The curry was good, but not exceptional, and they don’t have much else.
October 11 · Christopher Santantasioservice was very quick, which I appreciated. The curry itself was decent, but the rice was a bit mushy. I really hope they can improve on that since good rice makes such a big difference with curry rice. Surprisingly, the corn soup ended up being the highlight for me — creamy, sweet, and really comforting.
