Cobre & Clay Introduce
Nestled within the vibrant heart of downtown San Jose, California, Cobre & Clay offers a distinctive and engaging culinary experience that goes beyond the typical hotel restaurant. Positioned as a premier dining destination inside the San Jose Marriott, this establishment blends the comfort and convenience of a full-service restaurant with a casual, yet trendy atmosphere. The restaurant’s concept is deeply inspired by Mexican flavors and culture, offering a corner bar experience that features authentic street tacos, creative small plates, and an exceptional array of handcrafted tequila cocktails and craft beer.
Cobre & Clay positions itself as a delightful spot for both unwinding and indulging, whether you are a California resident seeking a new favorite spot or a visitor attending an event at the nearby San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The name and decor draw inspiration from San Jose’s rich history and cultural environment, which was once part of Mexico, using a blend of neutral palettes and bold color pops to create an atmosphere that is sophisticated yet welcoming. The menu is designed to appeal to a wide array of tastes, specializing in comfort food that is elevated with fresh ingredients and bold, Mexican-inspired flavors. This approach allows them to offer a varied menu that spans all major meal periods, from a hearty start to your day to a lively late-night dinner.
The unique fusion of being a high-quality, full-service restaurant and a prominent hotel establishment ensures a certain level of amenity and service focus. While some customer experiences have noted minor issues with service pace during peak times, and a few have mentioned the building’s echo-y acoustics making conversations difficult, the consistent praise for the quality of the bar offerings—especially the cocktails and great beer selection—makes Cobre & Clay a popular choice for drinks and quick bites. Specifically, their handcrafted tequila cocktails, such as the recommended El Gavilan (a vodka grapefruit cocktail), stand out as a highlight. The overall intent of the restaurant is to create a cozy ambiance that successfully blends comfort and sophistication, perfect for enjoying casual bites or crafted cocktails with groups, friends, or even when dining solo.
For diners in California looking for a convenient, centrally located spot that offers a culinary journey with a focus on fresh, modern Mexican-inspired fare and a premium bar program, Cobre & Clay provides a compelling option right in the cultural and business hub of San Jose.

Cobre & Clay Reviews
drinkchips and guacamole
★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1I might have come by on an event weekend, or they might have been understaffed. It was alright. My chips from my chips and guacamole has an interesting texture (crunchy but not crisp?), my drink was okay (I got their Twisted Old Fashion but it didnt have much of the flavors that were in its ingredient list) and was not super balanced. I'd return if I had a friend that needed food, but probably wouldn't pursue it myself. Its very echo-y in the building. It was especially hard to listen to my and others chairs being pulled out and pushed in.
August 16 · Marie SmithThe vibe is kind of off somehow but the drinks were good. I was trying to get a beer at the Marriott lounge (Coastal Manor) but the bartender was pretending not to see me so after 10 min I came here and got served right away. The draft beer is also cheaper here than the lounge, so I'm glad I came. It's right around the corner from each other and still part of the hotel so you can bring the drinks up to your room if that's your preference. I recommend the El Gavilan (vodka grapefruit cocktail)
August 19 · N YVery annoyed that nowhere on the menu does it say the shrimp they add to the Caesar salad is spicy. Nothing on Caesar salad should ever be spicy and if it is i It should be specified on the menu. I ordered my Caesar with shrimp and I could not eat even the shrimp.
February 14 · Penelope ParkerWe had an hour and 15 to kill before our show, we saw this place across the way. I was driving and my friend was looking forward to being able to finally unwind and have two or three cocktails. I was looking forward to one, plus maybe some food.It took 25 minutes for us to be able to place our order, and another 30 to arrive. There was no time to enjoy the food or drink, never mind order another. This was on a Wednesday night, with three people who seemed to be getting paid to be there. One was just chatting, another seemed to just be bringing food from the kitchen, and the third seemed to be the one doing most of the work, but then she'd stop and chat with employee #1.For what it's worth, I liked the cocktail. The guac and chips were ok.
December 14 · Sabine BaldenWe are avid tequila drinkers. I ordered a Tesoro añejo chilled. It was $20. And sadly - it was 100% watered down. Unclear if the bartender himself knew the liquor he served was watered down by the owner. Or if he did it. But crazy that a Mexican-themed bar would flatten out their spirits. Also service wasn’t good. I had to grab almost all of the stuff I ordered myself from the bar (drinks, waters, napkins, utensils). The bartender only came by at the beginning and then expected us to serve ourselves.
