The core concept of The Halal Shack revolves around customization, allowing patrons to create their perfect meal from a variety of styles, fillings, and toppings. This "new-school" Mediterranean style of dining caters directly to the fast-paced life in the Golden State, particularly appealing to those seeking a flavorful and substantial meal during busy periods like lunch or dinner.
The restaurant’s commitment to providing Halal-certified meat ensures that a crucial dietary requirement is met, giving peace of mind to the Muslim community and those who prefer Halal options. It's a casual, welcoming environment that’s great for a solo meal or a quick, fuss-free dining experience with friends or family.
The Halal Shack is strategically located to serve a major hub in the South Bay region of California. It is situated directly at the address: 1 Washington Sq, San Jose, CA 95112, USA. This location places it right within the bustling environment of San Jose State University (SJSU), often found inside the Student Union Building, making it an incredibly convenient stop for the large student and faculty population, as well as anyone visiting the immediate downtown area of San Jose.
Accessibility is a key priority for this location, which is particularly beneficial for the diverse California population. The establishment offers:
- Wheelchair accessible entrance, ensuring smooth entry for all patrons.
- Wheelchair accessible parking lot, simplifying the visit for those arriving by vehicle.
The specific location within the university community means that foot traffic is high and the surrounding area is often lively and dynamic, characteristic of the San Jose urban scene. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1They give horrible portions. I got a large bowl and the food doesn't even reach the first ridge on the bowl. Pathetic amount of rice with one scoop not even filling the ladle. Same with the meat, too. Half scoops of both chicken and beef. The only thing I got a decent amount of was lettuce, but I'm here for protein, not a salad. Overall, massive ripoff for $15. If you're a student looking for food, go to Panda or Taco Bell, it's worth the wait vs the absolutely horrendous portions.
May 06 · Nathan Cohn (Nayte)Food was good but entirely lukewarm. Got a falafel wrap where the pita was just slightly warmed and the whole thing was wrapped up without being put on any grill. Could have been so much better if it was just properly heated.
October 08 · Anthony SalazarPortions are small. Worker asked me if I wanted beans and I said no. And she said, “no beans?” Like was she surprised that I don’t want beans because I’m Mexican?! Workers were really nice to the guest before me and became monotone when I came up to the counter. Also the portions are super small. Not worth it. Made me feel super embarrassed.
September 18 · Ariel Davila-SanchezCarbs and meats taste fine, but one of the employees scoops way too little. I had like 6 small pieces of chicken total and barely any rice. Please feed the students more, shaking my head.
August 28 · Victor HuynhPortions are so trash genuinely . I always see people complaining about portions but this time it’s valid
