Gen Korean BBQ House Introduce
For California residents seeking a lively, value-driven, and utterly satisfying Korean Barbecue experience, Gen Korean BBQ House in San Jose is an essential destination. Operating as a premier Korean barbecue restaurant, Gen is renowned across the Bay Area for its extensive All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) model, making it a highly popular spot for groups, college students, and locals alike. The restaurant's trendy and casual atmosphere, complete with in-table grills, transforms a simple meal into an interactive and communal dining event. It's the perfect setting to celebrate, gather with friends, or simply indulge in an unlimited supply of freshly prepared, marinated, and unmarinated meats and traditional Korean side dishes ($Banchan$).
The core appeal of Gen Korean BBQ House is the incredible value and variety offered through its AYCE structure. Patrons can enjoy unlimited meats for a set price, with a Lunch Special available at approximately $21.99 per person and the Regular Dinner priced around $28.99 per person, though prices are subject to change. The menu boasts a boundless selection of proteins, ensuring that every craving is met. From the Raw Beef Selection, popular choices include the thinly sliced Chadol ($Beef Brisket$) and the flavorful Beef Bulgogi. For those who enjoy rich pork cuts, the Raw Pork Selection offers Samgyubsal ($Pork Belly$) and the highly sought-after Hangjunsal ($Pork Cheek$). A highlight for many is the inclusion of signature marinated meats like the Gen Signature Yangyeom Galbi ($Marinated Bone-in Short Rib$), which offers a unique balance of savory and sweet flavor notes. The menu also caters to those who prefer poultry and other flavors with options like Spicy Chicken, Honey Chicken, and specialty cuts such as Hawaiian Steak and Red Wine Samgyubsal.
While the restaurant is immensely popular and offers a great variety, prospective diners should be aware of the fast-paced, high-volume environment common in top AYCE spots, which can sometimes lead to inconsistent service. Some customer feedback has pointed to slow service, particularly during busy times, and occasional lapses in order accuracy. One customer noted that despite the restaurant not being busy, items were missed and there was a wait for re-ordered meat, suggesting service can be "slow" and that there may be a "wait" even when the restaurant highlights "Fast service." Diners are encouraged to manage their expectations regarding the pace of service and to utilize the available option to "Accepts reservations" to minimize potential wait times, which are noted to be common. Despite these challenges, the overall consensus often emphasizes the fantastic food quality-to-price ratio, with one patron noting a preference for the "honey soy beef belly" and the generous portions of popular cuts.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1What happened to this place? We ate here today because my son loves Gen BBQ, but it was such a disappointment. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn’t even busy. We were seated by a lady not in uniform (maybe a manager?), and she took our order without writing anything down. Not surprisingly, three of our items never arrived.Meanwhile, several staff members were just standing around chatting instead of helping customers including the lady who seated us. I raised my hand multiple times and was completely ignored. When we finally got someone’s attention, we had to reorder, but the meat took forever to arrive, and even then, not everything came. What did come out looked low quality.By then, we had waited so long we lost our appetite. We ended up canceling the rest, walked to the counter to pay (since who knows how long it would take for the check), and left.Never coming back.
August 29 · Trish UyFOODtbh i only like the honey soy beef belly. its the only thing i order when i go. tried hawaiian steak and garlic pork belly. hawaiian steak was a little too sweet for me and the garlic pork belly was a little too salty (you need to eat it with rice)SERVICElowkey service is really slow. i went during lunch and they only had one cook in the kitchen??? plates were served pretty slow (5-10 min wait). also they ran out of brisket and beef belly because they beeded to freeze the meat and slice it. confused on why they dont do it the night before. also no salad???ENVIRONMENTsticky floors. pretty cold.
April 17 · chelseaGood experience at Gen. Gabriel was very attentive & quick with everything, friendly & nice even though he had many tables. They should clean the floor more thoroughly, it's so slippery due to grease. And the kitchen should wash the scissors better, they need a good soaking before washing to get the grease & food residue out. Food is great & marinated nicely. The beef fingers were very good with a dip of sesame oil before grilling. Honey beef belly, galbi of course, and calamary steak. I don't recommend the calamary rings and premium steak, #1 on the list, no marble, so tough even cooked medium & smelled off. I like that they have the rice paper & radish.
September 22 · Chi NguyenOne star for the host at the front when we came in. She was extremely dismissive when we came in during lunch time to eat lunch. Sorry for interrupting your conversation with your coworkers. But if you don’t like to work here, don’t work here. Our actual server was great. He did his best running around to help as many tables as possible. The food came relatively fast and beer came cold. Our section of Tables were tightly aligned which probably made it easier for servers and food runners, but definitely did not provide as comfortable of an experience as you would have hoped. All in all, it was alright
January 14 · William ToGen Korean Food? More like "When? Korean Food."(And a food poisoning cautionary tale if you eat here)We waited 15 minutes to be seated, the restaurant was mostly empty, maybe 10 tables taken. 30 open and empty.Upon seating nobody took a drink order for 10 minutes. She finally came and took our order. We got some meat, appetizer, rice and waters for me and my wife. Then we waited another 10 minutes, nothing.Waitress comes by with the side dishes (ban chan). No word just sets them down.Another 10 minutes, they put some of our meat order on the table. No rice and no water or appetizers.I complain to the guy at the front and then the waitress rudely comes up to me and says "I'm waiting eight tables" ok understandable so its a poorly managed restaurant that is understaffed.By the time we started cooking 50 minutes of waiting happened.Thats not how a Korean bbq ayce works. At Q-Pot we would've left already full at that time. This is a bad bad bad dining experience, they're lucky i didn't ask for refund bc we ended up getting food poisoning later.
